A. Tao and «Akunin shoki setsu / the doctrine of evil persons as the object of salvation»

Something called Tao is hidden at the bottom of everything.

Everything is part of your hologram, say, an illusion, but this does not mean at all that the hologram is ignorable. On the contrary, it has to be cherished.

Everything in your world, which is your hologram, contains the fundamental energy Tao.

Whether a thing (or a person) is considered good or bad, at the very bottom of anything (or any person), Tao hides itself, waiting to be received.

Let's be nice to Tao.

Let's be nice to the world in front of you, which is part of your hologram.

Let's be nice to your own self, which is part of your hologram, too.

It's the treasure of good people.

Zen Master Dogen wrote «Shobogenzo 正法眼蔵».

"Shobo 正法" = the authentic manifestation (=right teachings)

"Gen 眼" = an eye (or eyes)

"Zo 蔵" = a storage

This "eye storage" is a fantastic medieval metaphor of a hologram. So, what kind of treasure do we store in the hologram, which is the world in front of you?

Of course, it is Tao (=Love, =Zen, =Buddha).

If you believe it, your belief is Tao's manifestation. If you doubt it, your doubt is Tao's manifestation, too.

You are not responsible for your thoughts.

Therefore, don't worry.

It's the place where not so good people feel safe.

Tao is the sphere where everyone feels safe. Even "not so good people can feel safe. Why can they feel so?

A Japanese Buddhist Shinran 親鸞 (1173 - 1263) answered:

"Even good people will become Buddha, not to mention evil people".

「善人なおもて往生をとぐ、いはんや悪人をや」

[zennin naomote ojo wo togu, iwan-ya akunin o ya]

(«Tannisho 歎異抄», Chapter 3; The book is thought to be written by Yuien 唯円 in the 13th century)

This summarises the idea of Honen 法然 and Shinran's Akunin shoki setsu 悪人正機説, The Doctrine of Evil Persons as the Object of Salvation.

It sounds as if bad people have a better chance of salvation. Some people have thought so.

But please do not forget there is neither good nor evil in Tao. Don't impose any judgement on Tao.

Salvation is "right here right now". We are saved as we are right here right now.

True You are Tao. You are the one who "saves" all by sustaining the circulation of Tao's energy.

(In other words, Tao sustains Tao itself by saving Tao's manifestation. That's what the Yin Yang circle and a Zen master's circle stand for.)

KEYWORDS

«Tariki: Embracing Despair, Discovering Peace». The subtitle of the book is a nice and correct way to explain the word "Tariki / Other Power". Of course, the Other Power embraces happiness and joy, too. But the idea is that you should embrace something hard to embrace. For the very hardship is a manifestation of Buddha's love as well as a miracle. Japanese novelist Hiroyuki Itsuki talks about his teenage experience of the Japanese repatriation from the Korean Peninsula. "Even good people will become Buddha, not to mention evil people." (Shinran's Akunin Shoki Setsu)
